I absolutely agree with Coco Chanel saying that a little black dress is an absolute necessity for each woman’s wardrobe. But from my point of view a little red dress is a must-have piece too, especially in summer. Poppy red is definitely a powerful color that gives a woman wearing it a shot of self-confidence. It is also a very passionate shade that unavoidably attracts attention of the opposite sex: no wonder psychologists say that if you are not 100% prepared for your presentation, wear a red lipstick — people will concentrate on your lips more than they do on your report. Moreover, red and pink are just a very interesting colors to style with.
Most bloggers wearing red dresses are trying to be careful with accessories and makeup compromising on minimal jewelry and avoiding any additional bright colors in the look. However, I believe that you are really missing out avoiding bright lipsticks and intense eye liners while wearing a scarlet or poppy dress. A little red or pink dress really can look good with a vivid lip product — of course, if the tone of the lipstick is selected correctly.
I like to wear my favorite Mac Amplified Creme Lipstick in a Girl About Town shade when I am in a red or pink dress mood (this lipstick color also works well with white and black colored clothes), a minimal eye makeup (just a Zoom Fast Black Lash by MAC) and no blush. For this summery look I used L’Oréal Colour Riche Gold Dust Nail Color that matches a color of the necklace attached to the dress.
I didn’t need to worry much about proper accessories for this short BCBG Max Azria dress, because it already comes with an in-built necklace. The beads are sewn to a thin transparent material on the top of the dress so the in-built necklace is not moving when you walk to turn around. The BCBG designers did such a great job with this elegant red dress that many of my friends didn’t even notice that the necklace is actually attached to the dress. They kept saying “What a nice necklace” while the correct complement would be “What a nice dress.” As you might see, I picked a pair of tiny diamond studs for this look in order to avoid switching attention from the dress and a statement necklace that it comes with.
Do you have a favorite little red dress? What kind of makeup and accessories are you wearing with it?
