Today on the Beauty Wars ring we have two mascaras that I’m currently using: Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes and Urban Decay Perversion Bigger. Blacker. Badder. These two products replaced my old favorite mascara by Maybelline that I threw out the moment I learned about the brand’s animal testing procedures. I love so many products by Tarte and Urban Decay that it was a challenge to decide which of these products work the best for me. There is only one winner in our weekly Beauty Wars—so the decision has been made. Read up the review and vote for your favorite product!
The Package: I am in love with Tarte mascara design! It’s stylish and fun while Urban Decay’s product looks pretty ordinary.
Consistency: Urban Decay mascara has a creamier consistency and doesn’t dry off as quickly as the one by Tarte. I’ve seen reviews saying that their Tarte mascara lasted for only three weeks… Honestly, I do not mind changing my mascara that often as I am wearing contacts and it’s better for me to change eye products as often as possible.
The Brush: I can’t decide on this one as both products feature different, but legitimately awesome brushes!
Pigmentation: Both mascaras provide great pigmentation. Urban Decay mascara looks more natural while Tarte offers more dramatic coverage.
Volume: If you are looking for a volumizing mascara, Lights, Camera, Lashes is your answer.
Length: Pick Urban Decay if your concern is making your lashes look longer.
The Curl Factor: Tarte is an absolute winner in that one! Used in combination with my favorite eyelash curler, this mascara gives you long doll-like lashes!
The Clump Factor: Tarte mascara could get a bit clumpy after a few weeks of usage, while I didn’t experience anything like that with Urban Decay mascara.
The Shower Factor: I felt that Tarte mascara is much easier to remove in shower than the one by Urban Decay. Both products require a bit of oil touch up (I use BUTTERelixir Hydrating Face Oil to remove leftovers), but Urban Decay product needs more rubbing than the one by Tarte.
Durability: Tarte mascara stays on my eyes longer than the one by Urban Decay. The latest could even get flaky if you wear it all day long.
Ingredients: Lights, Camera, Lashes does not contain parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances and gluten. While on the ingredient list of Perversion mascara it’s marked as “no parabens” only.
Animal Testing: Both products are cruelty-free and vegan.
Manufacturing: Both products are made in Italy. Tarte mascara is assembled in Taiwan.
The Verdict: Going back to back in many categories, Tarte is breaking a finishing line with scoring 5 over 3 Urban Decay’s points.
