Living in New York, I am lucky to have access to many designers, from independent to established brands. However, like many of you, I sometimes prefer exploring new collections online. Shopping online is a fast and convenient experience you can have from the comfort of your own home. Also, shopping online gives you an opportunity to compare prices and make smart purchasing decisions. Recently, I explored an even better way to upgrade your wardrobe with new designer pieces…and limit yourself to purchasing just once a month.
This new for me service is called IfChic. Basically, it is a monthly sale event that happens on the 24th of every month. There are many websites that list fashion deals (RueLaLa and Gilt being among the best known), but none of these websites allow you to earn money for your upcoming purchase. Yes, you heard right: IfChic gives you an opportunity to collect coins (each worth the equivalent of $1) throughout the month and then use them to pay for your next purchase. If you visit the website daily, you can collect up to $6 per day, which translates into $180 in monthly “store credit.” Not bad, right?
As you can see in the above photo, IfChic coins pop up on different pages of the website. Usually, you will see the first $2 coin on the site’s home page, and the rest under different categories of the website. Keep in mind that shipping expenses are not covered by the coins you collect, but even the expedited shipping is very affordable. For my IfChic purchase, I ordered the cheapest shipping option available (I paid just $4.95), but I received my packaged surprisingly fast: I placed my order on Friday, July 24th, and received the package on Monday, July 27th.
Score of the Month
Remember, the IfChic24 magic happens on the 24th of every month. On that day you can put all the coins you collected throughout the month toward paying for your next designer piece. There are plenty of options to pick from, from eyewear and jewelry to dresses, handbags, and coats. Among designers available on IfChic.com are Pink Tartan (I’ve been obsessed with this brand’s sophisticated sport collection since its launch at Nordstrom), French phenomenon Être Cécile, and selected pieces by New York City-based townhouse boutique Edit, among others.
The prices at the IfChic24 sale event vary anywhere from $49 for designer frames and earrings to $1,145 handbags by Benedetta Bruzziches and $1,550 wool coats by Cres E Dim. While shopping on IfChic.com, I noticed that accessories disappear very fast during the sale event, so if you see something very cool, don’t wait to click the “Add to Cart” button.
Call Me a Doctor
During the IfChic24 sale event, I was looking for a new handbag. New York Fashion Week is around the corner, and I decided that this year I need a couple new shoulder handbags to carry all my writing and social media supplies. I mean, clutches are definitely much more photogenic, but I am working during NYFW, not simply posing for street fashion photographers (it’s also a part of the job though). When I saw this doctor-style bag by Jay M., I felt it was a perfect match. First of all, the bag’s shape is very trendy (Vogue recently published an editorial featuring square bags). Second, it’s neutral enough to go with many different outfits (I am on a hunt for a pair of cool oxfords now!). Finally, it has a slight vintage vibe that I am just starting to appreciate (read this post to learn why).
I didn’t pay attention to the size of the bag when I ordered it and it turned out to be a bit smaller than I expected, but I don’t mind this at all (the more I put in my bag, the worse it is for my back). What truly fulfilled my expectations is the quality of the leather: it’s thick and soft at the same time. I also like the Hermes Kelly-style handle on top of the bag and the cute dusted gold hardware designed to emphasize the quality of the leather. The bag came in a pretty IfChic dust bag that I will be using to store this cool, unique bag.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my IfChic experience. I loved the bag, and got really competitive collecting those coins. I am even thinking of setting IfChic as a home page on my laptop so I don’t forget to collect my coins daily. What else can I say? I can’t wait for the August 24th IfChic 24 shopping event!
