It is great to know which makeup works for you in any situation and stick to it. However, every once in a while we all need to audit our makeup routine and try something new. Today, I would like to share with you my makeup tutorial where my friend Iyra and I are trying a new for her red lipstick look.
Prep: Preparation is the key which is why it is important to properly clean your skin before you apply makeup. One of the steps that I also follow every single time is using a toner before applying makeup. The one I picked for Iyra, Bliss SPA Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner, is a gentle alcohol-free product that primes the skin and protects it from everyday aggressors.
Foundation: Iyra is one of those lucky ones who has perfect skin and doesn’t really need a primer or a full-coverage foundation. However, I wanted to add more glow to her perfectly tanned skin and decided to mix Sephora Collection Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer with a luxurious YSL Teint Majeur SPF 18 Foundation. That way, the mix adds a bit of an extra glow to the skin without feeling too heavy.
Concealer: I love working with concealers as they refresh any look in a matter of seconds. Since I opted for a bolder eye shadow tone, I wanted to make sure that the under eye area was flawless and so I picked a thicker concealer than Iyra needs on a daily basis. The funny thing is that I used the exact same Dermablend Professional Quick-Fix Concealer that Iyra and I bought while on our last shopping tour to Birchbox Soho.
Eyebrows: I never spend money on eyebrow pencils or powders and I use the same old trick all the time. I buy a dirt-cheap Almay Intense i-Color Eyeliner that I apply using an angled eyeliner brush by Eco Tools. With this one little trick I save tons of money every year while having steadily perfect results.
Highlighter: Another trick that I use every single time while applying makeup is to emphasize the brow bones with the Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer. It makes a huge difference in how you look in photos and looks especially beautiful if you have tanned skin.
Eyes: To create this look, I used a couple of different eye shadows. First, I applied Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Shadow in #35 Tough As Taupe shade on the inner, middle, and outer lid. Then I applied the same eyeliner that I used for the eyebrows to outline the upper lash line. After that, I emphasized the outer V, outer lid, and crease with Milani Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Bella Purple. Finally, I used a silver shade from Almay Intense i-Color Smoky-i Eyeshadow palette to accentuate the inner corner.
Contouring: To emphasize Iyra’s glowing skin, I added a bit of Maybelline Mineral Power Bronzer Shimmer Loose Powder on the underside of the cheekbone to strengthen Iyra’s bone structure. Then, I added Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in #64 Pink Explosion on the apple of the cheeks.
Since I used a matte blush, I decided to add a bit of my favorite Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! highlighter to make the skin look illuminated (I also applied it on the corner of the mouth to emphasize the red lip look). Finally, I run Wet n Wild Color Icon Collection Bronzer SPF 15 in Reserve Your Cabana shade along Iyra’s collarbone.
Lips: To create this perfect red lips color, I combined two lip products in one: Chanel Rouge Allure in #104 Passion and Rimmel Stay Glossy in #360 Fuchsia Fever.
