Homemade Valentine’s Card Ideas

DIY Valentine's Card Idea - Felt Balls

This year, I decided to prepare for Ben a very special Valentine’s Day present. I picked some art supplies and started experimenting with handmade cards. A few crafting evenings later, I have a collection of DIY cards and tons of Valentine’s Day ideas for you. I haven’t decided which card I’ll be actually signing, so even if he sees this post it will still be a surprise for my beloved Benya.

Glitter & Temporary Tattoo Card

DIY Valentine's Card Idea - Temporary Tattoos

Materials:

Fluid Watercolor Paper (6″ x 8″)

Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter (3 pack)

Glitter Temporary Tattoos

Instructions:

1. Fold a piece of watercolor paper in half.

2. Pick a temporary tattoo of your choice and apply it on paper. Don’t be afraid to destroy the card with water: watercolor paper is designed for water related projects.

3. When tattoo is settled, pick a glue from Martha Stewart Crafts Glitter Set and draw a desired symbol or a word.

4. Generously sprinkle glitter on a symbol you drew and let it dry for ten minutes.

5. When glitter is settled, remove leftovers with a brush.

Extra Card Idea:

Print out a pocket sized photo (I printed mine at Shutterfly) and place it on the card using a double-sided scotch tape. Write a love message on the card using the above described technique.

Basic Watercolor Set

NYX COSMETICS Retractable Eyeliner (white)

Instructions:

1. Fold a piece of watercolor paper in half.

2. Write or draw on cards using a white eyeliner or crayon (those areas will resist watercolor and stay white).

3. Using watercolors and lots of water, brush whole card in stripes of color (I used pink, orange, and red).

4. Dry completely and add a layer of white pencil on top of previously outlined letters or symbols.

Extra Card Idea:

Using a heart stencil, draw different color hearts (download a free heart stencil here) and fill the white space with splashes of pink color.
