Since my arrival to NYC about seven years ago, every fall I’ve been faced with the same dilemma: should I or should I not wear tights? Growing up in the country where winter is extremely cold, bare legs was never an option for me. However, when I moved to New York, I figured that certain types of tights was a total faux pas for the Big Apple fashionistas. Over the last years I’ve been experimenting with both options (with and without tights), but to be completely honest I’m still a pro-hosiery kind of girl. This autumn I’m planning to expand my tights collection and update it with a couple of trendy colored tights. Today I’m collaborating with Wolford to give you just a couple of ideas on how to style super fashionably this season’s navy tights.
But first let me tell you a bit about these spectacular tights. The best thing about these is that their waistline is not too high. Personally, I can’t stand hosiery that turns into a roll on top while you are moving, and from this perspective Wolford Pure 50 Tights is a great exception. These tights end up exactly on my waistline, which makes them extremely comfortable.
Also, I really like the idea of the invisible seams, as they are invisible underneath the tightest-fitting clothing. Finally, Pure 50 Tights are durable and warm enough for fall, but not too thick (by the way, did you know that you can wash them in a washing machine?). I also love the fact that these tights are matte as it adds an extra chic feel to these already perfect (and unbelievably soft!) tights.
Well, now that you know what my favorite fall tights are, let’s discuss some of the styling ideas.
#1: LBD Upgrade
A little black dress, colorful tights, and heels is a classic combination that a girl with absolutely any type of figure can pull off. The best thing about this look is that it’s truly universal. You can wear it anywhere: from the restaurant to the office, school, or a casual meeting with friends. Try to bring up a bit more color to the look and pick a piece of jewelry that matches the color of your tights. Another option is to apply the eye shadow of the matching color.
#1: Color Coordinated
Match the color of your tights with the shade of your outfit and add some contrasting accessories. Since we are playing with bright colors, the rule of thumb here is not to overdo color combinations. Stick to a three colored-outfit (five at most); if you are wearing a piece with a print try to find the one that perfectly matches the color of your tights.
#3: It’s a Rainy Day
One of the best things about colored tights is that they can make even the most casual outfit look much more chic. Try wearing your coziest rain boots with bright pantyhose and you will notice that a colorful accent on your legs dramatically changes the mood of your outfit. Don’t be afraid to match your colored boots with tights of the opposite color; as soon as the rules of color combinations are in check, you are on a safe side.
