This mini-interview with Chris McMillan was like nothing else I have experienced before. From the moment I introduced myself, a superstar stylist started playing with my hair while sharing all the hair care tips and tricks I asked about. Afterwards, Chris awarded me with a new product by Living Proof that I immediately felt in love with and then switched his attention to what everybody was looking for, a hairstyle makeover for two lucky girls who won a Birchbox SoHo makeover. I was truly delighted with talking to Chris as he is an expert whose advice I would recommend to anyone who wants to improve their looks and move one step closer to their celebrity self.
In summer a lot of girls struggle with their hair as it becomes frizzy. Is there one piece of advice you can give on how to make hair more manageable?
Actually, Living Proof just presented their new product, Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield created to help with dealing with that problem. Even if your hair is straight, you still have those little hairs that are popping up, and you want them to be super smooth and look nice. What you can do is to use this product on dry or damp hair. Spray it on your brush or directly on your hair – and you are fizz-proof for the humid day!
I worked on a movie with Jennifer Aniston in South Carolina and it was so humid there! We used Humidity Shield on her hair and on the attached bangs. It worked out very well on her, and it will help to manage your hair too.
Here is another tip for you. On those days when humidity is about take over your hair, put your hair in a ponytail or a bun. All kind of braids will also work for the day like that. I recommend styling your humid day hair with the Perfect hair Day (PhD) Night Cap Overnight Perfector. It works similar to a night cream. You know how you put a bit of a thicker moisturizing product on at night so your skin stays hydrated? Night Cap works in a similar way on your hair, but I don’t recommend it just at night. Put it on the ends of your hair, as it is a deep conditioner that nevertheless feels very light. It will not weight down your hair!
STYLIST PROFILE: Chris McMillan has been cutting hair for over three decades. He is the creator of The Rachel — the cut from the TV show Friends that defined the 1990s. He’s also the mastermind behind the sexy, beachy wavy look that is currently ubiquitous on every red carpet. When Kim Kardashian got engaged, it was Chris she wanted to do her hair for the big day. When a certain rock star wanted a whole new image to shake the foundation, she called Chris—and Miley Cyrus’ new look was born.
