While out and about yesterday I had on my BCBG fascinator. What I found out was when you wear a hat on Kentucky Derby day, people kept asking me the same question over and over again, “Did you watch the race?” No, this year Ben and I didn’t watch the race as we had commitments to attend other events, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t wear a hat, right?
Every year the Kentucky Derby attracts people from across the country and around the world to celebrate the America’s biggest horse race, but what really counts in my world are the renowned hats that make the race really “Derby.” This Saturday, Ben and I were invited to an exclusive event at Space 16 Boutique in SoHo to celebrate the launch of Victor de Souza’s new hat collection. Indeed, there is no better day to present a new line of couture hats, and there is no better designer that can turn a traditional derby hat into a haute couture artifact.
This spring happened to be very productive for the talented Argentinian couturier Victor de Souza. Last month he presented his new collection at Madame Paulette, where Hamptons A-listers such as Jean Shafiroff and Rita Cosby cheered for Victor’s success. This week, an exquisite hat presentation for Manhattanizes took place in a Soho-based boutique Space 16. I am a long-time follower of Victor’s career since his renowned “moving runway” presentation in Central Park and I love the path his creativity has lead him.
