I don’t know whether you caught it on social media or not, but my Tropical Sunset Makeup look created in collaboration with Inglot Cosmetics and dubdub was featured on a billboard in Times Square two days in a row! It was a uniquely exciting experience. I’m so thrilled that my makeup skills are finally being recognized!
To be quite honest, my path toward makeup hasn’t been a smooth ride. I made all the mistakes every girl makes while developing her personal style—from overplucking my eyebrows to overdoing my blush—but I was never afraid of experimenting! Yes, winged eyeliner is something that comes naturally to just a few of us, but if you don’t make your mistakes, you have no way of learning. In fact, I invest time in learning about makeup every single day!
I grew up in a typical Russian family: my parents believed that makeup is made out of chemicals that are bad for you (which is probably true if we’re referring to post-Soviet products) not to mention that it makes you look “vulgar.” In other words, when I wanted to start using mascara at the age of 12 or 13, I went through a major fight with my parents who basically stated that since I lived in their house, I had to follow their rules and they announced that our house was a “no makeup” territory. I was sad and angry, but I conformed…until I started earning money from writing when I was 15 and ever since have fully exposed myself to the world of beauty.
There weren’t that many makeup brands available when I was a teenager, but I still remember them now: Bourjois, IsaDora Beauty, Kiss Cosmetics, Yves Rocher, and… Inglot! Yes, it was one of the first brands I tried when I was experimenting with makeup in my teens and, symbolically, it’s the same brand that brought me to Times Square!
Of course, over the course of the last decade, Inglot Cosmetics has evolved, but it has always stayed up to date. Last week, when I stopped by at Inglot’s store in Times Square, there were so many new things to check out that I spent a good half hour going through all the shades of new stardust eye shadows and shelves of liquid lipstick.
While I’m not sharing a new makeup look by Inglot with you today, stay tuned! I received an entire box of makeup goodies by the brand as a prize for creating a Times Square-worthy look. I can’t wait to share my makeup ideas with you guys!
