You are might be surprised to learn, but I haven’t applied for a driver’s license until… I turned 30. I know, it’s unbelievable but it’s true: for the last eight years that I lived in New York I somehow managed to have a driver’s permit that I only used when we were out in the Hamptons. To be honest, I don’t think that you even need a car when you live in the City as parking is super hard to find and the traffic is just ridiculous. However, while I’m not an active driver myself, I always appreciate a nicely designed car—especially if it’s a luxury one! To get some car inspiration for the summer, Ben and I recently got invited by SheBuysCars to attend a preview of the New York International Auto Show before it opens to the public at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Saturday, April 14, 2017.
To say that it was the biggest auto exhibition that I’ve ever attended is to say nothing! For starters, the exhibit space is enormous: every large car brand has a dedicated area which is decorated in the most luxurious and exquisite way. There are also special sectors where all sorts of events take place, from the presentations of new car models to parties and meet and greet with celebrities.
While Ben was exploring what’s new Jaguar has to offer (he’s been loving and driving cars by the brand for many years now), I decided to check out the Mazda section as I’ve heard about their super stylish models before. I immediately had a crush on Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible that in my imagination would work so perfectly for the Hamptons. It’s such a sleek and stylish car that I couldn’t get enough of it—so I indulged myself with taking tons of photos in it. My second favorite (and more realistic) crush is Mazda CX-5 which is a spacious and stylish Compact SUV that already received tons of auto industry awards. Comparing the vibe of those two, I felt that the SUV model would work much better for me as I’m a petite girl and it’s important for me to see everything from the elevated point when I’m driving. While a sport car feels more luxurious, it provides less road visibility while driving not to mention that it’s more difficult to get into it when you are wearing a tight skirt or a dress.
Talking about dresses (and all things fashion, as you wish), I decided to totally dress up while attending the New York International Auto Show. I figured that there would be so many opportunities to take photos with gorgeous cars, so why not putting the whole glam on for attending the show. I picked this cute white ruffle dress by Forever 21 and purple heels by Brian Atwood. I didn’t bring a bag at all as I was hoping to win the SheBuysCars New York Auto Show Handbag Challenge—but hey, who knew it’s for the show attendees only! In case you haven’t heard about the Handbag Challenge before, it’s a social media competition where the NY Auto Show attendees could snap and post a photo at Toyota, Mazda, Genesis or Hyundai booths on social using the #HandbagChallengeNYIAS hashtag and email the link to your post at firstname.lastname@example.org for a chance to win one of the five designer handbags.
If you never been to the NY Auto Show before, that’s a great way to explore all the new models in one place if you are looking for a new car. Instead of going from one salon to another (which very time consuming), just stop by at the Auto Show where you can see all of the cars at once and speak to the brand representatives. The New York Auto Show will be open to public every day from Friday, April 14th to Sunday, April 23th 2017 from 10am to 10 pm (Sundays: 10am – 7pm). The tickets to the show are $17 per person and are available here: http://www.autoshowny.com/tickets/. The list of all events happening during the show is available here: http://www.autoshowny.com/events/
