I am usually a very organized person (the only thing I sometimes forget is to flip the clothe out of the washing machine into the dryer. Ben calls me the “Laundry Forgetter” because of this), but the second day of New York Fashion Week was an exception. After getting dressed in an outfit that made me feel great, and bouncing out of the house in the best mood, I hailed a cab and was halfway to MBFW and had to turn the cab back home… not once…twice! (First, it was my pass to the Tents and then my college ID.) I do not believe in any superstitions (for instance, Russians believe that coming back home after you forgot something is a bad luck) and such little distraction in the morning didn’t ruin my day at all—but it was exhausting!
#1: Exotic Bag
You probably heard that fashion bloggers plan their fashion week outfits way in advance so they can test how their #OOTDs look on camera and don’t have to rush prior to the show. Well, this seasons unpredictable New York weather completely changed some fashionista’s plans. I can’t talk for everyone, but I can tell you that my second day’s outfit was changed due to the weather. I knew that I had to miss the evening show (sorry, Monique Lhuillier, I love your collections so much!) and attend a class instead, so I decided to put my yellow Black Halo dress aside and wear my Burberry pants, Ferre leather and lace jacket, and Brixton Fedora hat instead.
I also decided to carry my Fricaine See Fancy Embroidered Handbag that I had recently received (c/o). That bag is so colorful and adorable that it totally saved my overall casual look. In fact, Style Network interviewed me primarily because of this gorgeous embroidered bag! Also, I loved the fact that such an exotic purse happened to be very practical. Not only did I look fashion week friendly at the Tents, I was also able to carry all of my college textbooks with me. Perfect choice!
#2: Style Celebs
My “tomboy look” day was full of celebrity sightings and photos. First, I spotted Tim Gunn, Project Runway mentor and fashion guru. I’ve never noticed while watching the show how tall he is; the contrast was even more obvious because I was wearing flat, rock-n-roll style boots. We took a quick photo together and Tim had to run so I was not able to ask him about his new book, “The Natty Professor,” that is out March 24. The book is available for pre-order now on Amazon, and I can’t wait to read and review it on my blog.
Then, I met Vital’s buddy Rocco, a creator, producer, and host of FashionNewsLive.com. Compared to Rocco, Tim Gunn is not that tall (and I am so short!). I’ve also caught a glimpse a blogging star Bryan Boy surrounded by his fashion crew, Rumi Neely and Co.
#3: Rock vs. Office
Live performances at Fashion Week are becoming more and more popular. As it turns out the duo design team who stand behind the brand Mark and Estel are not only fashion designers, but also musicians. They are really designers first, but it’s fun that their add there own musical twists to their runway show (check out runway photos here). Everything in the collection was rock-n-roll inspired: from oversized shoulder line jackets to capes and rompers. Also, the brand finished its show with a live performance, where the designers Mark and Estel supported their creative statement with some rock-n-roll tunes. It was unique for sure. Continuing the conversation about unusual fashion shows, I have to mention Charlotte Ronson that entertained the stylish crowd for an hour or so. Her collection of versatile pieces in purple, green, and gray shades might refresh your regular office outfits and relaxed weekend looks.
#4: After Hours
After the official part of NYFW was over, I headed to Lulu’s Style Studio where I was invited for 4th annual fashion blogger party. It was a fashionista’s heaven! Beautiful clothes and accessories, makeup and hair makeovers, free manicure and nail art design by 100% Pure, and drinks and snacks, to name a few. I met many wonderful bloggers from all over the U.S. and felt rotten spoiled after a chair massage and a makeup makeover by Shea Moisture (yes, they started a makeup line, exclusively for Target!). What a perfect getaway from an eventful start of the fashion week!
I will continue reporting about my adventures at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and look forward to reading your comments about my NYFW coverage (you can find my Day 1 NYFW report here). Stay tuned as I will be shortly be announcing some very exciting news for #StyleSprinter readers! And, of course, do not forget to follow my blog via email by filling in the subscription form below.
