Living in the United States for a while, I know that the end of April is a busy time for milliners, people creating designer hats and hair accessories as fashionistas are looking for their Kentucky Derby hair accessories. I am not an exception and this season I am planning to wear a hairpiece that goes far beyond a typical Derby’s sunhat. Looking for inspiration in the works of a cult Irish designer Philip Treacy, I decided to pick a hair peace with a veil that creates a contrast with my pale skin tone and a monochrome outfit. There is no other country in this world that is wearing hats more often than English and Irish women. So why don’t borrow their years of hat styling experience, right?
I am sure that you’ve heard Philip Treacy’s name a million times before, as he is one of the world’s most famous milliners (that’s the term used to describe fashion designers that specialize on creating hats). He is affiliated with the designer houses of Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Chanel, Valentino, and Ralph Lauren. Philip’s work is also highly publicized thanks to his hats created for world’s most fashionable Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Beyonce, Dita Von Teese, and Lady Gaga.
While looking at Philip Treacy’s look books and going through hair accessories from my personal collection, I caught myself on dreaming about visiting the Ireland one day. And it’s not only about my affection to Irish fashion designers (from above mentioned Philip Treacy to the “uncrowned queen of Irish fashion” Louise Kennedy, and a guru of prints, Orla Kiely), but also about the rich history of this country and its unforgettable landscapes.
I was thinking how I would stay at a medieval fort like a famous luxury travel attraction Ashford Castle, sip famous Irish beer (Guinness, if you are not aware!), and re-read the works of my favorite local writers (perhaps, Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Grey”). Cozy pubs, green heels and lush landscapes… Oh boy, I desperately need to rewrite my top 15 summer getaway wish list and move Ireland up in my list! Especially because the above mentioned hotel makes it easier to travel for people with pets (lucky you, sweet Lilusik!) and those loving luxurious SPA-services (count me in!)
I hope my Philip Treacy inspired looks motivated you to DIY a hat for upcoming Kentucky Derby party or perhaps motivated you to reassess you travel plans. In any way, I am wishing you to have a wonderful weekend and (finally!) enjoy the sun!
