Why I Follow 4 Skin Care Routines Per Day

StyleSprinter Skincare Routine

Last week, one of the most influential web portals, Skincare.com published an interview with me entitled “This Beauty Blogger Follows 4 Different Skin Care Routines Per Day.” Even though I’ve been following such regimen for many years now, somehow the realization that it’s double to what the majority of skincare lovers would do didn’t come to me until this interview went live. While the interview only mentions types of products I’m currently using, I was thinking it might be fun to read which exact beauty goodies are currently on my rotation.

Morning Skincare Routine

I’m one of the girls who can’t skip washing their face in the morning as my T-zone is getting oily during the night. Saying so, I start my morning routine by cleansing my skin with Erno Laszlo White Marble Cleansing Oil. Then, I use a gentle toner, Vichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner, and apply my eye cream, Perricone MDH2 Elemental Energy De-Puffing Eye Gel. I follow by a serum and moisturizer from the same line and finish my morning skincare regimen with SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50. I often apply IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50 which is technically not a foundation, but it provides a great, natural-looking coverage.

Midday Skincare Routine

Usually I work out in the afternoon so I take a shower at the gym. One of the most important rules that I recently learned about is that it’s crucial to wash your face within 15 minutes after a workout. This notion is especially relevant to people with acne-prone skin as mine. The idea here is that you don’t want bacteria to “marinate” on your skin all day long. After a workout, I use La Roche Posay Toleraine Purifying Foaming Gel as it’s soap-free and helps to clean impurities. Then, I’ll apply Clarins Multi-Active Eye Cream so I look alive in a matter of seconds and Hydra-Essentiel Bi-Phase Serum to quickly hydrate my skin. Then I’ll put on La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer SPF 30 as it’s a great two-in-one product. I also apply a nourishing lip balm after a workout as my lips usually get dry after a shower. I’m currently testing and loving Kopari Lip Love Balm, but I could never say “no” to my all times favorite Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15.

Evening Skincare Routine

If I’m attending an event in the evening, I will prep my skin before applying makeup so it looks healthier. Since at this point I already washed my skin twice, I will use a gentleVichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner to clean my skin and apply facial mask of my choice. I love the concept of multi-masking so I prefer picking a few different masks that address different issues my skin is dealing with at that particular day. Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask is my go-to for the oily T-zone. Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy‑Boosting Face Mask is my absolute favorite for the days when I need my skin to look refreshed fast. I also don’t mind all sorts of hydrating sheet masks by both Korean and American brands. And of course I can’t imagine my life without Patchology FlashPatch Eye Gels—this five-minute gel mask eliminates what even the most advanced concealer couldn’t.

Night Time Skincare Routine

Proper cleansing is the most important step in my skincare routine as I wear a full-face makeup almost every day. I start by removing my eye makeup and false lashes with Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution or with a more affordable Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. Then, I massage Dermalogica PreCleanse into dry skin and allow it to melt my makeup. I use a clean washcloth dampened in warm water to wash the product off my face. Then, I follow with La Roche‑Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser that I apply with my Clarisonic Mia 2 Brush. If I’m not wearing makeup that way, I will simply wash my face with the same foaming cleanser followed by Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and don’t use Clarisonic. Twice a week I’ll go for a deep exfoliation where I use either Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel or Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment.

After cleansing, I tone my skin with Vichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner or, if I have breakouts, I pick La Roche-Posay Effaclar Clarifying Solution. Next step is an eye cream. My all-times favorite eye product is Retrouve Revitalizing Eye Concentrate, but I also love Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream.

My current favorite night time serum and moisturizer combination is Sunday Riley Good Genes and La Mer Crème de la Mer as it’s ideal for my skin. When I have a special event early in the morning, I apply Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Oil combined with Amore Pacific Time Response Skin Renewal Sleeping Mask.

  • I thought I had my skincare routine down but yours is serious! Good for you for taking care of your skin.

    • I guess I’m a bit obsessed with my skincare routine and all these steps are not necessary – but I’m just trying to be honest on what goes into my skincare routine! Thank you for stopping by! Have a lovely day!

I bet you have great skin condition. I am such a slob when it comes to this. I wash my face when I get up and before bed and usually call it a day. I wish I had that determination because I bet your skin reflects your dedication.

    • Lucky you if you only need to wash your face and your skin feels great! My skin is acne-prone so it gets really nasty and I break out like crazy if I don’t follow a very specific skincare regiment!

Wow! I wish I took the time on my skin that you do. I’ve started becoming more serious about it recently (I’m almost 30 now so I guess it’s time). This motivated me to step it up. Thanks!

    • Thank you for your sweet feedback! 30 is the perfect time to start! Please keep me posted if you have any skincare questions as I’d love to help you out!

  • Wow no wonder your skin looks so good all the time!!!

  • Wow now this is quite the routine! Your skin always looks amazing. It’s so important to look after the skin you’re in that’s for sure. My mum always told me to start at an early age so this is exactly what I did personally and at 33 it’s paid off.

Thanks for sharing this informative post!

    • Thank you for reading, Laura!

My mom told me the same thing so I started my three step skincare routine at the age of 12. I washed, toned, and moisturized my skin (the concept of sunscreen did not exist at the moment in Russia where I grew up). I feel that if you start early it’s easier to keep this habit going.

Looking at your photos I would never say that you are 33! You look fantastic! Your skincare regiment really works!!

      • You’re absolutely right, it’s so important to look after the skin you’re in. Thank you ever so much for your kind compliment, that’s very sweet of you to say especially as I turn 34 next year!

Have a great July (how is it July already)!!

Okay girl, I have to be honest with you but do you ever find 4 skin care routines a bit too much? I clean my face three times a day, in the morning, after working out and then at night but I’m always scared of putting too much product on my skin because you know they say that sometimes less is more! But your skin looks flawless every time I see you so maybe I should start to incorporate your tips. I also need to try out the products you’ve mentioned especially the ones from Vichy because I’ve heard great things about that brand but haven’t tried it yet!

    • It is too much – but that what works for me 😬 I have a very problematic skin: acne, aging, dryiness, oily T-zone… so I guess that what works for me.

I agree that oftentimes less is more, especially if you already have a great skin to start with. But the more issues you have the more active ingredients you need to incorporate into your routine.

Personally it took me years of research and trial and error to figure out what works. Granted it takes lots of time and money to follow this routine but I’m okay with it as soon as my skin feels okay.

I wonder what are your three skin care routines? Could you please write a blog post about it? I’d love to read it!!!!

Wow! I have to try this!
