How To Wear Summer Clothes in Winter

How To Wear Summer Clothes in Winter

If I was a famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov I would say, “Just add a faux fur vest to it!” But I’m not a short story genius so here comes my long story describing pretty much the same thing. Essentially, I wear some of my summer pieces all winter long by adding a few warm-looking clothes to the mix. It’s easy and fun and it works very well with bright colored clothes—not to mention that it feels so cozy to wear faux fur clothes during the cold season.

This particular look started with my new favorite PUMA sneakers that I received as a holiday gift from SIX:02 (aka the coolest sporty chic retailer ever). In case you don’t know, it’s a designer branch of Foot Looker that offers such cool brands like Fenty by Rihanna, Ivy Park by Beyonce, MZ Wallace, and adidas by Stella McCartney. I already wrote about my favorite pieces from SIX:02 a few months ago, but I feel that it’s time to finally take you through my favorite sneaker styles. Please let me know in the comments area below if you are interested in learning more about it and I’ll put together a blog post for you.

Meanwhile, let’s discuss some additional details on how to make your summer clothes look winter-appropriate.

Tip #1: Just Add Black Tights

I’ve tried this trick so many times here on the blog and it always works. You can easily transform your summer dress into a winter one by wearing it with a pair of non-transparent black tights. The best thing about this trick is that you don’t necessarily need winter shoes either. Since tights create an effect of over the knee boots, you can wear them with pumps and even high-heel sandals. Just a side note: black tights make your legs appear longer!

Tip #2: Style Fancy Skirts with Sweaters

One of my favorite style bloggers, Noor from Queen of Jet Lags, is the best in using this trick. She will take the most fancy skirt you can imagine (especially sequin or lace one) and style it with a cozy oversized sweater. Such unique combination of typically summer and winter materials creates an interesting contrast and does look super chic.

Tip #3: Go From Short to Long Sleeve

This winter styling trick is actually very trendy now thanks to the street style superstars. Basically, the trick is as easy as it sounds: you pick up a slim-fitting turtleneck top and pair it with your favorite summer dress. My personal favorite is to style a silk dress with a white or black turtleneck, but the options are unlimited. It’s all about your personal color preference and creativity!

Tip #4: Wear Over the Knee Boots

This tip is especially relevant to all your summery mini dresses that look so incredibly chic in combination with OTK boots. Especially, if you also add a cute scarf or a faux fur vest on top. You can wear the boots with tights or without, the key here is to make sure that your skirt is not getting static electricity from the fur details of your look.

Tip #5: Bring On Your Moto Pants

Maybe it’s just me, but I can totally wear summer tops in winter if my legs are warm. Usually, I’ll wear my favorite moto pants with cool ankle or over the knee boots and just add my favorite light fabric top or a blouse. If you prefer a bit warmer attire, feel free to throw a cool knit cardigan on top of it to finish the look.

That’s it for my tips and tricks of wearing summer clothes in winter. Please feel free to share yours in the comment area below!
