Correct me if I’m wrong but if I hear one more time the word “layering” I’m gonna freak out… It’s not like I don’t believe in layering pieces of clothes for your fall looks, but I spent soo much time updating my fall capsule wardrobe that I’m on the edge of a nervous breakdown…
I’m not even joking! Ever since I started to transition my wardrobe to more classic and versatile (AKA I’m too busy with my puppy boutique AKA why all the bloggers are wearing the same dresses from Rent The Runway?), I realized that finding high-quality basics is FAR more difficult than trendy or colorful pieces.
Later in this post, you’ll be surprised to see how many pieces I had to send back because…mmm, I am too picky about the quality of fabrics for my basics. Or, let’s be real, picky in general! As I know that somewhere there, in the infinite waters of the world web, there are my absolutely perfect basics — I just need some time to find them.
To explain my process of online shopping, I’ll be posting images of both “keepers” vs items that I decided to return – let’s call these series cheesily “Keep vs Return” — so you know exactly my reasoning for doing so. Okay, let’s dive into my shopping bag!
This trench was the biggest score of the season for me! I found it at the local TJMaxx at more than 60% off in my perfect size. I can’t even tell you for how many years I tried to find a trenchcoat that was not too big for me in shoulders and not too small in the chest (again, big boob girl problems!). And this one fits like a glow as it features a solid puffy shoulder so it works for girls of any shoulder width. I was so so happy to find it, especially at a 62% discount – so expect to see this trenchcoat all over my Instagram.
Fit: Mine is in size 0 and fits perfectly. I’d say it runs a bit larger to size — which is understandable as the coat supposed to fit loosely.
Status: Kept, worn, and loved ever since!
The length, fit, and shade of this cardigan are so perfect. But… I guess I’m too spoiled with my 100% cashmere sweaters and this one feels too itchy to me. Technically speaking, I could have saved this duster and wear it on top of blouses and long sleeve tops only but I want from my basics versatility level when I can wear them with anything from a tank to a button-up shirt.
Price Point: $199 + free shipping.
Fit: True to size! I ordered a size S in the petite option so it’s more comfortable on my arms.
The moment I thought I would never find a perfect cashmere duster in a neutral camel shade… I immediately bumped into one! It comes at a perfect length, features adorable inside-style pockets, and just feels and looks so luxurious! Compared to the duster above, this one is a 100% cashmere — and half the price of the wool blend one. It’s definitely a saver!
Price Point: $99 + free shipping with the code SHIP89.
Fit: True to size. I picked XS and it’s perfect. Go for S if you are bigger in your arms as the duster fits snug in that area.
Status: I’m wearing it as we speak. Love it!
I really loved the idea of this tank as it features a trendy snakeskin and a unique square neckline. But the sizing was off for me on this one. I ordered S as opposed to my regular XS (as it was sold out) and the stripes were too long for my body. Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the fabric but because of the sizing issue, I’d have to send it back.
Price Point: $29 + free shipping. It comes in 5 additional colors.
Size: I ordered S which was too big and too long on me. I’d go one size down as it’s made out of a stretchy fabric.
Status: Returned, will order a size smaller.
I picked this classic wool blazer at the end of summer and I already knew that it will take me through an entire year. It’s beautifully tailored and capable of matching any look, from a chic white jumpsuit that I styled it with for a family event, to an all-black NYC-style attire — like this Mott & Bow jeans and silk blouse ensemble you see in the photo above.
Price Point: Currently 30% off + free shipping, total price $118.
Status: Kept forever!
