Pre-Gym and Post-Gym Skincare Routine

Do you wear makeup to the gym? I never do it because I feel that it causes breakouts. What I do instead is make sure to have my pre-gym skincare routine and the post-workout regimen is on point. Today, I share with you my favorite products that I use before and after hitting the gym. That way, you will have a few ideas on which products to introduce into your skin regimen.

For me, the most critical thing about pre- and post-gym skincare routine is to wash my skin with a proper cleanser, re-hydrate it after a wash, and protect from the sun.

You can achieve a designed outcome with the same set of skincare products for each use. But I prefer going the extra mile and have different products for before and after a workout.

Think about it as of pre- and post-workout snack. You have to receive specific nutrients to make your gym efforts matter. Same with skincare. If you know your ingredients, you’d be able to provide your skin with the exact products it needs.

Pre-Gym Skincare Routine

I’m trying not to strip my skin too much before a workout since I know that I’ll be rewashing my face in about an hour. If your skin type allows, go for an oil-based cleanser or use a cleanser suitable for sensitive skin.

Cleanser

My personal favorite pre-workout cleansing product is Eve Lom Gel Balm Cleanser. It’s gentle and hydrating, and I feel that it provides exactly what my skin needs in the a.m.

Erno Laszlo White Marble Cleansing Oil

I also enjoy Erno Laszlo White Marble Cleansing Oil. Even though it features oil as the main ingredient, it doesn’t provoke my acne-prone skin and doesn’t leave the oily residue.

Elemis Sensitive Cleansing Wash

For people with sensitive skin, I recommend Elemis Sensitive Cleansing Wash. This gentle cleanser has been one of my favorites for the longest time, especially on the days when my skin is reacting on new skincare or makeup product.

Serum

The next step in my pre-gym skincare routine is a serum. Usually, I go for something with Hyaluronic Acid. Such products are generally featuring a lightweight formula that immediately absorbs into my skin and doesn’t move while I’m sweating at the gym.

PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum

My recent discovery is PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum, which is perfectly lightweight and incredibly nourishing.

SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator

My all-time favorite is SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator, and excellent overall smoothing and softening moisturizer.

Sunscreen

I never leave the house without sunscreen on. And before a workout, I prefer products that are very durable and don’t melt while I’m working out.

SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50

My go-to sunscreen for years is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50. It’s gentle and fast-absorbing. I just can’t recommend it enough.

Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution SPF 50

I also appreciate lightweight formulas of Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution SPF 50. This fluid improves my skin on so many different levels.

Post-Gym Skincare Routine

Perhaps, the most important tip I can give to anyone struggling with acne is to wash your face the moment you finish with your workout.

These days, I carry a Salicylic Acid or clay-based cleanser in my gym bag. That way, I can wash my face immediately after a workout. Yes, even if I’m heading straight home after the gym!

Purifying Cleanser

La Roche Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Gel

My absolute favorite post-workout cleanser is La Roche Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Gel that features the gentlest Salicylic Acid formula I’ve ever encountered.

Elizabeth Arden SuperStart Probiotic Cleanser

Another all-time favorite is Elizabeth Arden SuperStart Probiotic Cleanser that features an entirely different, clay-based formula. Thanks to the probiotic blend, it’s also ideal for purifying your skin after a workout.

SkinFix Foaming Clay Cleanser

A more affordable version of the same concept is SkinFix Foaming Clay Cleanser. This award-winning formula is perfect if you have combo skin as it helps to balance your skin out without over-drying it.

Moisturizer with SPF

For my post-workout moisturizer and sunscreen routine, I prefer the 2-in-1 type of products, so I save some space in my gym bag. That way, I’m protected from the sun while walking 15 minutes to and from the gym. And my pores are not getting clogged with sweat mixed with makeup.

When it comes to a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen options, Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 is a great, lightweight, and all skin tone-suitable option.

Pre- and post-gym skincare routine is something not many people are talking about. But I feel that it’s an important concept to understand. I’ve been working out very consistently lately.
