Last year’s trip to Tulum taught me an important fashion lesson: I don’t have that much of boho pieces in my wardrobe. While my usual colorful look was certainly appropriate, I felt that I need to blend in with the boho chic surroundings just a little more. This time around, I came prepared: my suitcase was packed to the trim with a bohemian dress, espadrilles, and statement jewelry.
One of my favorite looks from the trip was this floral maxi dress from Marissa Webb. I wore it with the most comfortable Soludos espadrilles that I own for a few years now. In fact, this specific style works so great for me that I picked a few of them in different shades and prints. When it comes to accessories, I opted in for this gorgeous statement necklace by Happiness Boutique. It’s quite heavy which actually allows the piece to stay in place while I’m moving. I also love the entire multi-layering situation and the fact that it contains both chains and crystals.
Generally speaking, my typical Tulum attire usually consisted of floaty but casual dresses that I paired with bracelets and flat shoes. Oftentimes, I wore an outfit that features a print—mostly dark florals or geometric (skip on polka dot though). When it comes to accessories, I didn’t even bother bringing heels. Everyone is wearing either flip-flops or sandals even during the night time and there is no occasion or opportunity to put high heels on. Also, the climate is so humid that just a thought of wearing heels in that heat makes me uncomfortable.
One thing that I forgot to pack to Tulum and ended up missing it was a sun hat. Tulum’s sun is very tricky so it’s important to have something covering your head while on the beach or exploring. Last year, I’ve been wearing and reapplying SPF 50 all the time and I still got burned! This time around, I became even more diligent about picking the right sunscreen for my combo skin, but a good hat would be a great accessory to have on hand anyway.
