What’s In My Gym Bag

Gym Bag Essentials

Summer is almost here, and I’ve been spending more time at the gym than ever. It all started when Ben and I decided to hire personal trainers that will motivate us to work out more. Knowing myself, I figured that if I have an appointment at the gym, I am more likely to show up. As it turned out, there was much more that goes into personal training, and we were able to figure out a routine that requires me to create gym “appointments” for myself—meaning, working out on my own. While it takes some time to get in shape and I’m not ready to share my before/after photos yet, today I’m collaborating with Steripod to share my fitness essentials that make me more excited to workout.

Gym Bag Essentials

My Gym Bag: Ban.do After That We Are Eating Pizza

But first, let’s talk about the bag itself. For the longest time I’ve been carrying around a backpack full of my gym essentials, but a few weeks ago I rewarded myself for all the fitness dedication with this cute light pink gym bag by ban.do. The funny thing is that I’m gluten-intolerant so I can’t even act on the slogan it features and eat pizza… but I love how corky and fun this bag anyways. I bought it on Amazon, and it goes together with a yoga mat featuring the same saying. The bag is spacious enough and features convenient length handles and outside pockets where I usually put my phone and keys.

My Water Bottle: Ban.do Work It Out Lady of Leisure

I know, it’s a bit extra, but I wanted my water bottle to match my gym bag, so I purchased this cute floral water by the same brand. It comes in a convenient size and is leakage-proof which is essential if you want to save your bag from unnecessary stains. Maybe it’s just me, but I noticed that I’m more into drinking water if I have a cute water bottle next to me. I feel like since I invested money into purchasing one, I’ll better use it and not just stare at it. Don’t you feel the same way? Usually, I’m aiming for finishing at least two bottles of water a day—in addition to my non-stop peppermint tea drinking habit. So yeah, I would say I’m well hydrated!

My Yoga Mat: Ban.do After That We Are Eating Pizza

As mentioned before, my yoga mat features the same slogan as my bag (and it perfectly fits on top of the bag, so it’s easy to carry around). For the longest time I’ve been using the mats available at the gym, but since I’ve been experiencing some bacne issues, I finally picked my own mat that I bring to the class. That way I’m 100% sure that the mat is washed every single time after taking a class. Also, how could you not enjoy your workout if the shade of your yoga mat is so incredibly cute?

My Gym Bag Beauty Essentials

As I previously mentioned in my post on preventing acne while at the gym, I recently started taking a shower at the gym so I can save my face and body from breakouts. Since my gym is located in just a few blocks away from my house (aka office) my gym beauty bag is minimalistic and doesn’t contain any makeup products. There are a lot of the products in it though that I can’t live without. Let’s dig into it!

#1: Oral B Toothbrush with Steripod Toothbrush Protector and Crest Toothpaste

I know, it’s not super eco-friendly, but every time I take a shower, I brush my teeth. It’s just a habit that I have, and I don’t change it while at the gym too. I’ve been using the same toothpaste for years now, and I have a small size of it in my gym beauty bag. I use a medium softness toothbrush that I always protect with Steripod Toothbrush Protector. Honestly, I don’t understand how people manage to put their toothbrush in a makeup bag where it touches all of the nasty lurkings from other products — just a thought of it makes me cringe! All it takes is just $3 cover that will preserve the freshness of your toothbrush for up to three months. It’s so cute looking and so convenient to use—if you are a gym shower taker, definitely pick one for yourself and for the rest of your family. By the way, you can use a promo code PH7R0M63H241D to get free shipping on any order of $9.99 or more.

#2: Organic Island Deodorant

While there is a spray deodorant available for members of my local Equinox, I’m not a fan of using it and prefer grabbing a pure, all-natural deodorant that I found at Amazon. I was researching aluminum-free options for a long time, and I finally decided to trust this highly reviewed product. It turned out to be even better than I expected: not only it contains just a few ingredients, but it’s also fragrance-free and provides an excellent coverage for the entire day. While I’m not sweating that much at all ever since I started my plant-based diet, I continue using a deodorant just out of a habit, and this one is my absolute favorite.

#3: Dr. Hauschka Rose Nurturing Body Oil

I have nothing against Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Body Lotion (in fact, I love it!), but they have this moisturizer attached to the wall outside of showers at Equinox. Why? I don’t get it! I love to spend time applying moisturizers on my body, and I don’t need anyone to see me doing it. Long story short, I bring Dr. Hauschka Rose Nurturing Body Oil with me to the gym, and I love how it makes my skin look and feel. It smells so luxurious, and it keeps my skin so hydrated. I’m loving it and plan on repurchasing this product again and again!

#4: Lip Oil and Hand Lotion

If you remember my recent post about lip oils, you know that I have a major obsession with Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil as it smells amazing and truly moisturizes my lips. The brand recently launched a few new shades, and I’m using #04 Candy ever since I finished an entire tube of #02 Raspberry. The lip oil has a bit of tint to it which elevates my after gym look just a little bit while providing all the nourishing my lips need after the shower.

Another product that I consistently write about on my blog is this cute hand lotion by eos. I have a few of them around the house and in my handbags, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I pack a pink version, so it matches the color of my gym bag! Of course, it’s not the only reason—eos hand lotions are just so incredible for keeping my hands hydrated all day long!

#5: Skincare Essentials: Medicated Cleanser, Eye Cream, Serum, and SPF Moisturizer

As I previously mentioned, my number one rule for taking care of my skin at the gym is to use Salicylic Acid based cleanser the moment I finish my workout. My all-times favorite one is La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser which is ideal for my acne-prone skin. That way, I disinfect my skin and ensure that no gross bacteria is building up and causing breakouts. In fact, I apply the same cleanser on my back and shoulders (especially after a yoga class where you spend so much time touching your yoga mat) to avoid bacne.

The next step is the eye cream. I recently started using Miriam Quevedo Black Baccara Bioactive Molecular Eye Cream, and I love what it’s doing for my under eye area. I feel the immediate firming and tightening which is essential as I want my eyes to look like I just went to a SPA as opposed to “killing it” at the cycling or boxing class. The cream quickly absorbs into my skin and keeps it nourished which is an ideal combination when I need to look presentable in a matter of minutes.

To illuminate my skin after the gym, I’m using Vichy Idealia Life Serum which smells delicious and immediately plump my skin. In fact, that’s the serum that I’m currently using during the day, and at night too so I need to purchase an extra bottle, so I don’t need to move it back and forth from my bathroom to the gym bag. To see how this serum works in action, make sure to check out my recent Instagram video—you can totally see how my skin plumps on camera!

Lately, I was more concerned about the convenience of using two-in-one kind of moisturizers that already contains an SPF as opposed to grabbing two separate products. This notion is especially relevant for my gym skincare routine as I try to bring as few products as possible. One of such multi-tasking products that I’ve loved lately is La Roche-Posay Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer SPF 30. This oil-free moisturizer is so gentle and so effective—I love how my skin feels after using it. Another critical moment is that it’s suitable for sensitive skin which is great as the product calms my skin down after an intense workout!

#6: Haircare Essentials: Detangling Brush, Hair Tie, and Hair Oil

When it comes to haircare, I’m very particular about which hair tie I’m using at the gym. My hair is very straight and silky, and a regular hair tie slides off in a matter of minutes, so I only use hair rings by InvisiBobble. These grab my hair and keep it in place for the longest time, without tangling it. I use the same hair ring at night as opposed to a crocodile clip to secure my hair on the top of the head and avoid tangling. After a workout, I use the same hair tie to secure my hair in a bun, so it doesn’t get wet.

After a shower, I use this cute pink and yellow brush by Tangle Teezer. As advertised, it’s such a great brush for fine hair that is prone to tangling! It might sound weird, but I have a separate tiny brush by the same brand for my sweet puppy Lilusik. She is a Yorkie with long hair, and it’s the only thing that helps me to groom her properly!

When my hair is brushed through, I use a few drops of this beautifully fragranced Diamond Oil Glow Dry by Redken which is perfect for adding a bit of shine to my dry hair. If I wash my hair at the gym (I use a shampoo and conditioner by Kiehl’s that is available at the gym) I use the same oil to blow-dry my hair: it protects my hair from heat damage and improves the appearance of my blow-dried hair.

I couldn’t agree more on the cute water bottle. For the gym, for the office, for home. If it’s cute I’m more inclined to use it and drink more water. Great post!

  4. That bag is so cute! I bet there are gluten-free pizza versions so it can be kinda true, right? Sticking to a gym schedule is hard but that’s cool you found a way for it to work for you with ‘appointments’!
