While on vacation, I like to dress up and make cute hairstyles, but at the same time I prefer to travel light and pack all my clothes and makeup in one carry-on bag. In this post, I share with you my tips on how to pack hair products so you don’t carry any unnecessary items in your travel bag.
#1: Decide on your hairstyle
Usually, I plan whether I am going to wear my hair straight or curly and pack just one hair styling device for the entire trip. For instance, over my trip to Nicaragua I packed my favorite curlier by Herstyler and created all kind of curly buns and up does. In opposition, I picked a plat iron by Sephora while packing for our trip to the Bahamas and wore my hair straight or in a braid.
#2: Stick to mini
Mini products are real lifesavers when it comes to traveling. Usually, when I have a full version of the product and its tester, I save the small version for vacation. I’m not a big fan of travel bottles, even though some people consider those to be extremely helpful. Instead, I order small versions of my favorite products online at such websites as drugstore.com and beauty.com. If you subscribe to beauty sampling services such as Birchbox or Beautyfix, you might consider saving some of the samples for your vacation.

#3: Pick two
I usually pack just two or three hairstyling products: a hair spray and one product for defining my curls or de-freezing my straight hair. Some of my favorite hair products are: Sabon Hair Serum (for straight hairstyles), Living Proof Perfect Hair Day, Kiehl’s Hair Conditioner and Grooming Aid, Got2be Styling Sparkling Glue (perfect for up-does), and Number 4 Jour D’Automne Non Aerosol Hair Spray.
#4: Wash your hair more often
While dry shampoo might be helpful on vacation, I usually leave it at home and instead wash my hair daily. In my opinion, it is impossible to keep your hair dry and sand-free while on a beach vacation. Also, I noticed that even having a bottle of dry shampoo with me I usually end up washing my hair for the evening anyways, so there is no need to carry just another hair styling product in my bag.
#5: Be brush-wise
I usually take just two brushes with me: a regular one that I use to brush my hair and a small one to part my hair. While on vacation, I let my hair dry naturally, brush them once, and then touch up with the iron or a curlier. Please keep in mind that such approach might not work is you have naturally curly hair.
