What’s Your Real Fashion Style?

One of the questions that I often receive as a fashion blogger is “How can you describe your style?” While I love providing a long, detailed answer mentioning some of my favorite brands and styles, I figured that all people want to hear from me should be somehow defined in a few words: preppy and colorful, eclectic boho chic, glam and fun, etc. There is no doubt that I have my own unique style (like any of us do!), but until this time I was not able come out with the “elevator speech” on how to define it…

…And then I bumped into this style squad quiz by Boohoo. If you read my blog for a while, you probably remember that I collaborated with the brand a few times while writing about Paris-inspired outfits and beach bag essentials. This time, it was a completely different kind of collaboration. Basically, I took the test that features all sorts of fun questions like “What is your most used emoji?” and takes just a few moments to complete, but at the end you receive not only an answer to which squad you belong, but also a complete list of outfit recommendations that works for your unique style.

Prior to taking the quiz, I was thinking that my style could be defined as a mix between preppy and trendy, but as it turned out my style squad is GLAM! Well, considering a number of dresses and high heels in my closet it is easy to explain. However, I never had the nerve to call myself glam before. Maybe I’m just shy or I’m lost in translation from Russian, but when I’m thinking about glamour I immediately have a picture of a celebrity in mind, not a Russian girl Katya. Saying so, I was happy to explore this new interesting twist to defining my personal style. I’m not sure that the next time people ask me about my style I’d say “Well, I’m so glam!” but nobody prohibits me to think that way, right?

I don’t know about you guys, but this style quiz was so helpful for me! I check out the “New In” section of BooHoo website a few times a month and I’m sometimes getting overwhelmed with all the gorgeous styles to pick from. I want everything and from so many different collections! Having a style idea in mind really helps to make up your mind. While I am not suggest limiting your choices with just one specific style, using your staple style to begin with is very handy.

One of the first things that I picked under the Glam category was this geometric midi dress. It was a love from at first sight and it literally took me just a few minutes to pick matching strap heels (LOVE those!) and a box clutch. I wore this combo at one of the Hamptons’ best parties at the Capri Hotel.

If you remember The Ultimate Hamptons Guide, this hotel hosts some of the most exclusive and stylish gatherings, either at the pool or a bar area of this Southampton landmark. That day, a world-famous hip-hop singer Ja Rule performed at the Capri—it was such a fun event to attend. My glam dress got noticed by so many of our friends and even strangers. Even though I walked on the stones and teak floors wearing heels, I felt comfy and confy (that’s my interpretation of a short form of the word “confidently”). Needless to say, I’m definitely planning on repeating this look in the City too!
