Disclosure: This post is brought to you by SkinMedica.
From all the skincare products I test daily, I trust the most those recommended by dermatologists. I feel that the scientific approach to skin care is the right way to go and generally speaking I see better results from such derm-approved products. One of the dermatologist-created brands that have been on my radar for the last few years is SkinMedica. I was introduced to their best-selling HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator a few years ago while at the dermatologist office and my SkinMedica collection grew exponentially ever since. Today, we’ll be diving deep into reviewing some of my favorite SkinMedica anti-aging products to figure out which SkinMedica skincare goodies are actually worth the investment.
But before we begin, a few words about the brand. You probably saw SkinMedica products online and at selected dermatologist offices, but did you know that the brand will be celebrating 20 years anniversary in 2019? Yep, it was established in 1999 when Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick introduced Dermal Repair Cream, one of the OG moisturizers that help to prevent moisture loss. With the introduction of TNS Recovery Complex and TNS Essential Serum, the brand established itself as a leader in the result-driven scientifically based brand.
I first tried SkinMedica products only in 2017 when I received a sample of SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator (can you tell I’m always on top of the skincare game? LOL). Three years later and on my third jar of HA5, I can tell for sure that I see the results from using SkinMedica products. After my first success story with the brand, I started researching the rest of SkinMedica offerings and here comes a roundup of my favorite products from the line.
If you are looking for a great Hyaluronic based serum that doesn’t look sticky and immediately smoothes out your skin, look no more. This product is my absolute favorite HA serum that I use almost every day before my moisturizer and sunscreen. I even took it to my recent vacation to Europe which talks a lot about my addiction to this product. I have acne-prone skin that sometimes reacts on makeup, but I was able to use this serum regardless of the condition of my skin. It never breaks me out, it never irritates my skin, it never causes any weird reactions. Just pure hydration and softening for my skin. I’m obsessed!

At this point, there is no need to repeat why I’m addicted to sunscreen, but the fact is that this SkinMedica SPF really works for me. This product contains both synthetic and mineral ingredients that blend evenly on my skin. It also features the antioxidant complex that helps not only to protect your skin against damaging UVA and UVB rays but also rejuvenate your skin. I love that the formula is lightweight and it works great with my makeup. Yes, the protection level is not SPF 50 as you could possibly expect from the derma brand, but it actually serves me as a reminder to re-apply my sunscreen midday.
Key Ingredients: Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 3.0%, and Zinc Oxide 8.0%.
Shop Now: $68 for 65 g / 2.3 oz.; available via physicians.
I’ve always been into heavier night creams and this one is one of my recent favorites. Since it’s designed for normal to dry skin, I apply it only on my cheeks and chin area as that’s where I experience dryness. The product features an antioxidant mix of vitamins C and E that not only help to deeply moisturize my skin but also provide brightening effect. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid that is my favorite type of humectants that help to deeply moisturize my skin.
Key Ingredients: Tetrahexydecyl Ascorbate (a form of ascorbic acid aka Vitamin C), Tocopheryl Acetate and Linoleate (Vitamin E), Hyaluronic Acid, and Algae Extract.
Shop Now: $129 for 48 g / 1.7 oz.; available via physicians.
Being guilty of wearing liquid lipsticks almost every day, dry lips is something that I’m dealing with on a regular basis. I’m applying my favorite lip mask every single night and ensure to have at least one lip balm on me at any given moment (check out the list of my favorite lip products). But sometimes even those measures are not enough to keep my lips hydrated. Saying so, I was excited to test out SkinMedica’s latest innovation, a set of 2 lip products designed to smooth and plump your lips. I really liked the smoothing part of the system — there are not that many Hyaluronic Acid lip balms on the market, but when it comes to the plumping… I have full lips so I just didn’t feel the need for using it. It feels very refreshing and nice on the lips though so if you are into that kind of products, definitely check it out.
Key Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid.
Shop Now: $68 for 1.5 g / 0.05 oz.; available via physicians.
It’s too bad that I placed brand’s hero dual serum on the last place in my list, but it simply because I didn’t have a chance to test it enough. I love the idea of having two potent products in one and the cool packaging that it features, but honestly speaking I used it product just a few times so I can’t give you my full review on the serum yet. Definitely stay tuned for the updates on this serum though as I’m putting it to the proper test this week!
Key Ingredients: Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (aka growth factor blend that improves appearance of fine lines and wrinkles), peptide complex, antioxidants (EGT, Q10, and Green Tea Leaf Extract), Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Vitamin E, Blackberry Leaf Extract, Alpha-Arbutin (brightens skin), and Hyaluronic Filling Spheres.
Shop Now: $281 for 28.4 g / 1 oz.; available via physicians.

Ever since I drafted this post, I had a chance to test a few additional products by SkinMedica. So part 2 of my favorite and not so favorite SkinMedica products is coming up very soon. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, I’d love to hear your thoughts on SkinMedica products. Did you have a chance to try out any of the products from the line? If so, what are some of your favorites?
