Travel Beauty Essentials: Skincare and Toiletries

How I Take Photos for My Blog

Right after New York Fashion Week, I’m heading to a month-long vacation in Europe. I never traveled for that long before so I’m trying to be super creative when it comes to packing travel beauty essentials. While it’s easy to figure out what to bring in terms of clothes (I actually already wrote about the looks I’ll be wearing in Europe), when it comes to beauty it’s hard to make up my mind. As a skincare and makeup junkie, I really struggle with rounding up my travel beauty collection to the basics. So I was thinking that if I put my thoughts on paper (okay, type my thoughts online) it would be easier for me to stay organized.

Travel Beauty Essentials: Skincare and Toiletries

If you follow my blog for awhile, you could probably guess that skincare products occupy the biggest space in my suitcase… As a self-proclaimed skincare junkie, I just can’t imagine my life without all the hydrating and cleansing products that make me look alive and smooth out my skin. When it comes to skincare packing for vacation, I tend to stick to my all-time favorite products that come in a travel-friendly packaging. I also throw in a few samples that I could test while on vacation in case I want to try something new. In fact, I have an entire basket in my beauty room dedicated to samples that I’ll be testing while traveling.

#1: Face Cleanser

When it comes to skincare, a perfect cleanser is the most important for me. In case you don’t know yet, I’m very-very-very picky when it comes to cleansers. I have a few favorites on rotation and I rarely switch from these products as I love how my skin looks and feels after using them. My favorite cleansing combo is Dermalogica PreCleanse followed by Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. Cleansing oil melts makeup and the cleanser makes my skin squeaky clean.

#2: Exfoliant

Maybe it’s just mine super picky skin or rapid change of climate and water, but my face always breaks out while on vacation. Another reason might be that I tend to forget to bring with me chemical exfoliators and as a result don’t re-surface my skin as often as I’m at home. Lately, I found a small packaged Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant and I love what it does to my skin. I’m definitely bringing this super effective skin smoother to vacation!

#3: Serum

While I do have a whole list of favorite serums, when it comes to vacation I tend to stick to my old favorite Vichy Idealia Serum as it’s a versatile product that I could use both at night and during the day. This product has been my go-to travel essential as it features a lightweight formula that you could use on its own as a moisturizer in a warm climate as well as in combination with a cream for cold weather situations and at night.

#4: Moisturizer

If you remember my post about Frudia’s Pomegranate Line, you know that brand’s moisturizer has been my absolute favorite product when my skin feels dehydrated. Basically, that’s exactly what’s happening with my skin during long flights and constantly being outdoors while exploring new countries. While the cream comes in a glass jar which is not ideal for traveling, I’ll be bringing Frudia Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Cream with me anyways as I just can’t find any other product that hydrates my skin as effectively and quickly as this one.

#5: Eye Cream

When it comes to switching different time zones, a good eye cream is a necessity. While at home, I tend to switch from hydrating to anti-aging to anti-under-eye-circles eye cream all the time, but since I’m trying to pack as least amount of products as possible, I’ll be bringing with me Trufora Perfecting Eye Treatment which is one of my favorite all-in-one kind of under eye creams.

#6: Sheet Masks

Usually, I pick a mixture of clarifying and hydrating masks that I pack in the 3:1 ratio, i.e. 3 hydrating masks to 1 cleansing or detoxifying mask. That way, I could hydrate my skin throughout the week and deep cleanse it on the weekend. #7: Sunscreen

All other products aside, great sunscreen is the most important product for me. If you remember this week’s post on My Holy Grail Skincare Products, you know that I’m obsessed with Lancôme Bienfait UV Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+. It’s a lightweight, oil-free, fast absorbing product that I use daily and not planning on switching anytime soon. Needless to say, I’ll definitely be bringing it on a vacation with me.

#8: Makeup Removing Wipes

I used to be able to use any makeup removing wipes out there, but ever since I tried Estee Lauder Double Wear Long-Wear Makeup Remover Wipes I can’t switch to anything else. These travel-friendly makeup removing wipes melt even the most sturdy makeup so you don’t need to strip your skin while trying to get rid of waterproof eyeliner.

Travel Beauty Essentials: Skincare and Toiletries

I don’t write often about toiletries on my blog because I’m very conservative when it comes to picking personal care goodies. I might experiment with dozens of makeup and skincare products daily, but when it comes to toiletries the list is always the same. Since I never really wrote about it on the blog, here comes my roundup of all the personal care items that I’ll be bringing with me on vacation.

#1: Deodorant

While I can live without my favorite cleanser or even eyeshadow palette for a few weeks, when it comes to deodorant and toothpaste, I’m incredibly picky. In fact, I remember how during our last trip to Spain we had to go through a few pharmacies in Madrid as I forgot to bring my deodorant. So while packing my travel beauty bag for the upcoming trip I make sure to pack my deodorant first as it’s absolutely essential for me, especially while doing sightseeing and enjoying a warm European weather. My current favorite one is Secret Invisible Spray in Boho Berry. It comes in a compact, travel-friendly packaging and smells like freshly picked raspberries.

#2: Razor

Even though I just started laser hair removal procedure, I’m not there yet when it comes to shaving. I’m not that picky when it comes to razors so I basically pick the one that takes the least space in my toiletry bag. For vacations, I usually pick Venus Snap with Embrace Razor in Cosmo Pink as it’s small and cute and comes with a protective plastic cover that is super handy and hygienic when it comes to travel.

#3: Contact Lenses

I have such bad eyesight that just a thought of not having a new pair of contacts when I need to replace the old one freaks me out. Biofinity contact lenses that last anywhere from two weeks to two months are my favorite, but I grab at least three extra pairs with me just in case. Told you: I’m super weird about it!

#4: Toothbrush and toothpaste

I’m not picky about the toothbrush at all so I usually pick the one that is small. Similar to what I do for my gym bag, I make sure that the toothbrush either comes with a cover or I just pick one of the covers to protect the bristles from bacteria. When it comes to toothpaste, I’m super-duper specific about which one I use. I’m not (and never been) sponsored by this toothpaste brand at all, but for the last 9 years (yep, ever since I moved to the U.S.) I only use Crest 3D White Toothpaste in Radiant Mint. Maybe it’s just a power of habit, I can’t stand any other toothpaste and I really struggle if I forget my favorite one while I’m on vacation.
